I didn't really play Mario 64 as a kid-I had an N64 but didn't ownt he game: my friend had it and I guess I figured that was good enough, I didn't need to own it myself. Now looking for more suggestions for my DSi. Definitely a good game, not quite sure it's worth the immense fanfare around it, but I'm glad I powered through the frustrating moments. Music's pretty good too, but some of the tracks just got too damn repetitive near the end.ĭidn't try out multiplayer or many of the minigames, but it seemed like some good bonus content. Some of the levels I despised (Shifting Sands and the snow based ones), and some I loved (basically all the water ones, damn good music there), but it's obvious they were well crafted with a lot of creativity. Very satisfying to get some after doing some tricky platforming. The controls are obviously tailored for analog response, so in many spots they became a sore spot.ĭamn, complaining again, but really, I did quite enjoy the game's structure of basically completing puzzles to get the stars. Just.Maybe it shouldn't have come out on a bloody system with no analog stick. Okay, getting the bad out of the way, I do have to say it is indeed a pretty good game, especially when you think that it came out in 1996 originally. I never grew up with Nintendo games, so I came into this on my DSi XL as I come into any other game, completely neutral.īut yeah, of course it's not a difficult game or anything, I mean we do have pretty much infinite lives, but in a few parts, the platforming, the slippery controls, the completely and utterly useless camera just came together to really ruin the fun. Disclaimer, unlike many of you, I have absolutely no rose tinted nostalgic glasses to look this game through. Okay, maybe miserable is a bit of an exaggeration, but God fucking damn it, some of the levels in this game really made me miserable.
